SHA Celebrates Healthy Homes Month

SHA Celebrates Healthy Homes Month

The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) announced 2019’s theme is “Growing Up Safe and Healthy: 5 Minutes to a Healthy Home.” HUD chose this theme to emphasize the importance of protecting current and future generations of children from harmful exposure to lead from contaminated paint, dust, and soil.

The Sylacauga Housing Authority is dedicated to creating healthy, safe, and sustainable homes for our families. In celebration of Healthy Homes Month, the Sylacauga Housing Authority will be conducting lead detection screenings throughout our properties. The Sylacauga Housing Authority is committed to prioritizing lead detection screenings, carbon monoxide detection, and all other health and safety precautions.

At the request of the Sylacauga Housing Authority, Jim Heigl, Mayor of Sylacauga; has proclaimed June as Healthy Homes month throughout the City of Sylacauga. Michael C. Threatt, CEO accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Sylacauga Housing Authority (watch here).  Additionally, Governor Kay Ivey has declared June as Healthy Homes month throughout the State of Alabama. The Sylacauga Housing Authority is proud to acknowledge the support of our state and local government as we celebrate this month. We believe that together we can help create healthier homes for families as we become the #HousingAuthorityofTomorrow.
