Winter Wonderland float with lights.

2023 Sylacauga Christmas Parade

SHA employees decorated a float with the theme Winter Wonderland. The float included polar bears, an igloo, penguins on a slide, lit trees, decorated trees, arches with icicles, thousands of lights, a bubble machine, and Christmas music. Our float won second place among around 100 entries.

Bingo!

SHA residents play Bingo at Sylavon Towers, usually on the third Thursday of the month. We put reminders on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Signs are posted during the week that we play.

For Halloween we put on a parade for our residents. We passed out goody bags and free smiles to all who came out to watch!

Christmas Carols with B.B. Comer Elementary Students at Sylavon Towers

The Sylacauga Housing Authority was proud to welcome Kindergarten students from B.B. Comer Elementary. The students sang Christmas Carols for our residents at Sylavon Towers. The students had a great time; as well as, our residents.

Sylacauga Fall Festival

The Sylacauga Housing Authority was proud to help present this year’s Sylacauga Fall Festival. Thanks to the assistance of the entire Sylacauga Community we were able to welcome over 300 attendees and pass out over 10,000 pieces of candy. Guests were able to enjoy pony rides, hay rides, bouncy houses, trunk or treat, refreshments, and even a cake walk.

Fall In Together

In order to celebrate the arrival of Fall the Sylacauga Housing Authority hosted “Fall in Together’ for our Sylavon Court and Sylavon Towers residents.

Bingo with Amedisys

The Sylacauga Housing Authority was proud to partner with Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care to host Bingo with Amedisys for our residents. Bingo Amedisys was a fun filled morning of bingo and fellowship for our residents. The winner of each game won a prize from a selection of household goodies.

Financial Insights and Homebuying Training

In celebration of Homeownership Month, the Sylacauga Housing Authority hosted “Financial Insights and Homebuying Training” in partnership with Hope Credit Union and the Sylacauga Area Habitat for Humanity. The class provided insight on the traditional homebuying and mortgage process, as well as the Habitat for Humanity homeownership process.

Community Easter Egg Hunt

The Sylacauga Housing Authority proudly hosted the second annual Community Easter Egg Hunt this past week. Over 200 people were able to attend and participate in the festivities. There were a variety of activities including face painting, sack races, pictures with the Easter Bunny, and of course a massive egg hunt. Adults enjoyed the delicious food prepared by SHA Staff and the cake walk. This event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the SHA Staff. Through their collaboration, this event went above and beyond. Their diligence and care ensured that every detail of the day was perfect. Members of the SHA team volunteered in every compacity and donated many of the supplies needed for the event. We are so thankful for the #SHAFamily doing what they do best, serving their community. We would also like to thank all the businesses and organizations that supported this year’s event. Church of the Highlands generously provided much needed volunteers and Home Depot donated all the materials and stencils to make our beautiful photo cut outs possible. The following companies and organizations generously supported the event through donations: Home Depot, Church of the Highlands, Giddens Plumbing, Vansandt Hardware, NAPA, AirGas, Sylacauga Glass, Payne Pest Control, Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE), Little Caesars, Jacks, Grace Memorial Chapel, Service Printing, the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, the Sylacauga Police Department, and the Sylacauga Housing Authority .

Home Depot Little Library Installation

We received a very special Valentine from our friends at Home Depot Sylacauga! Home Depot graciously provided us with two little libraries for our residents. We are so excited to be able to provide our residents access to such a fun community amenity. We can not thank them enough for their amazing work! There is a library at our Drew Court Office and at our Sylavon Towers Community Room.Use of the little library is open to everyone! We ask that you please return books to the library once you have finished so others can enjoy the story. We accept children and adult book donations at our central office to keep our supply of books fresh!

SHA Week of Service

In celebration of our Transformational Leadership Luncheon we have taken time to give back to Sylacauga. We have been able to partner with some amazing organizations within the community and enrich the lives of those that reside within our great city. We began our week of service at the Sylacauga Animal Shelter where we were able to help sort and organize their donations, wash dishes, and even give out a few treats. It was such a fun afternoon and a great opportunity for us to give back to such a great organization. Next we were able to host a food drive benefiting Alabama Childhood Food Solutions. The SHA Family donated canned food, toiletries, and other essentials to ACFS. Our drive was so successful we outgrew our original donation box! Finally we partnered with Sylacauga Heath and Rehab to visit with some of their residents! SHA staff was able to play cards, paint nails, and talk with residents. Our staff had so much fun spending time with each and everyone of them. #SHAServes #SHACares

Sylacauga Christmas Parade 2018

The SHA Family had so much fun participating in this year's Sylacauga Christmas Parade presented by the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce! We were so glad to be able to bring the Polar Express down Broadway and spread a little holiday cheer. We would like to extend a special thanks to all of the families that joined us on the float and all of the staff who tirelessly worked to make our vision a reality. #HousingAuthorityofTomorrow #SHACares

SHA Thanksgiving Luncheon

Thanksgiving came early for members of the SHA community! SHA hosted a luncheon in honor of some of our senior residents. This luncheon celebrated our community and honored our residents with food and music. We appreciate everyone who came out and celebrated with us, as well as assisted with the success of the event. We want to send a huge thank you to DJ Kenny Ray, J. Craig Community Center, and SAFE's Transportation System! #SHACares

Drew Court Clean Up Day

We had an amazing time at our Drew Court Community Clean Up Day! Our SHA Employees were able to join the community and make Drew Court a little more beautiful. We spent the day cleaning up trash and doing a little light landscape maintenance. All-in-all a Saturday morning very well spent. #HousingAuthorityofTomorrow #SHACares

First Annual SHA Fall Festival

The SHA was able to present our First Annual Fall Festival this Halloween. We were able to welcome our residents to a Halloween full of treats, tricks, and and a lot of fun. We provided inflatables, trunk or treating, and refreshments to all of our residents that were able to make it out to celebrate this spooky season. It was a great success and exceeded our expectations. We strive to extend ourselves to the community, for the community. A special thanks to all of our partners: Fort Williams Pharmacy, Marble City Pharmacy, Pizza Hut, Sherwin-Williams, Wells Fargo, and Unique Desserts. We'd also like to show our appreciation to Councilwoman Tiffany Nix and her team, SHA Staff, Verlie B. SHA Community Health Fair

SHA was proud to present a community health fair for all of our residents. Health specialist from around the area were in attendance to offer free screenings and answer questions regarding any issues or health concerns. We offered blood pressure and bmi screenings as well as representing many local businesses. #HousingAuthorityofTomorrow
